You’d be surprised about how many people that are behind a screen building a business actually consider themselves “extroverts”.
I’ve written before that pursuing your dreams takes courage and commitment. But let me tell you my perspective. I don’t consider myself a naturally born “extrovert”, although I show my face on social media or on my website all the time.
In fact, I think I was born an introvert that had to learn how to deal with life. I’ve moved to 14 different houses to date, and was brought up changing to different schools every two years or so.
So if there’s something I can share with you today, it’s how I’ve managed to fight those fears inside my head at different stages in my life.
When I published my first website, blog post or product, I felt so nervous, anxious and excited all at the same time. Believing in yourself is what will allow you to step on the gas pedal of what your business was meant to do in this world. Yes, it’s going to be scary. Yes, some people will judge you, laugh at you or think that you are ridiculous, but you get to choose how to deal with that.
You have control of your thoughts, and if you let the negative thoughts win, then you lose.
Every time I had to fit into an inner circle, a new city, a new school I always felt like I wouldn’t be good enough. I feel like we are all somehow born introverts and some learn to take control of their thoughts faster without thinking too much about everything.
What if people don't like me? What if my business will be a failure? What if I do all of this work and it’s for nothing?
Through the course of my life I’ve asked myself these questions constantly. Trying to figure out why I’ve been afraid of so many insignificant things all the time. Until one day I decided to start ignoring this voice in my head that would always make me feel like I’m not good enough.
Instead, I started bringing life to a new voice in my head that said imaginary words of wisdom to me like: What if I could actually do what I love and make a living out of it? What if I can make my business successful? What if I can be in the same zoom conference room talking with people that intimidate me like a CEO or 6-figure business owner? What if the people that intimidate me are deep inside introverted people that just got pushed to become the people they are because they followed their dreams?
I can promise you that no one on the tip of the mountain of their lives has had an easy journey getting there. Being consistent is key to getting to the mountain top one milestone at a time. It’s like hiking for a few days and then setting camp while you relax and recharge. And then, it’s time to keep hiking.
Introvert, extrovert. I’ve also asked myself before what would happen if I released my job title from my life, however the point here is that life and being successful with your business shouldn’t be about putting labels on yourself.
“I’m not good around people”, “I’m not good at taking pictures”, “I’m not good at marketing”. We can outline a handful of excuses to not continue on the path of entrepreneurship, but I do feel it’s important to be aware that you won’t be perfect. You need to build your business balance and avoid burnout as an entrepreneur acknowledging that you can’t do everything alone.
We all have different personalities, and different ways of handling our emotions. But being an introvert or extrovert should not be an excuse to keep going further.
The more you question your beliefs about yourself and how you do business, the more each will grow, and I can’t wait to see what happens when you start believing that you actually can achieve anything you want, if you work for it.
